Watts Atelier : Fundamentals I and II

So I've started this course on Watts Atelier online, it's an amazing place! Thoroughly enjoying the exercises and I am getting better quickly. I am happy found that site, what an amazing online resource! I am looking at doing this for the next few years, at least for the first few hours every morning.

So here are some photos from my homework for Fundamentals I and II. It really starts at the beginning: sharpening pencils, hehe!

Homework 1: sharpening pencils! Actually a good way to get into the right meditational 'mental space'.

Cones, spheres, cubes and cylinders. Failed this one, the ellipses weren't tight enough. Resubmitted better versions, see below.

Seeing negative spaces. Useful when constructing the image, it is one more thing that helps you get the proportions an placing right.

Tonal study of head, dividing the head up into dark and light areas.

Contour lines across the arm muscles.

Still life of a relatively complex scene with objects which can be broken down into the basic cylinder and cube shapes.

Sphere redone. I decided to show the construction lines also this time.

Cube redone.

Cone redone.

Cylinder redone.
